Terms and Conditions for ShareWhile

Key Summary: By using ShareWhile, you agree to use location sharing and chat features responsibly and respect others' privacy. You are solely responsible for the content you post in chat groups. We are not liable for misuse of location data or chat content by group members. You retain full control over your location sharing at all times.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using ShareWhile ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not use our App.
2. Eligibility
- ShareWhile is available to users of all ages as rated by the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store
- By using the app, you confirm you have appropriate permissions to use location sharing services
- Parents and guardians are advised to supervise children's use of the app
- Users are responsible for complying with local laws regarding age restrictions
3. User Responsibilities
a) Appropriate Use
- Use ShareWhile only for lawful purposes
- Respect the privacy and consent of others when sharing location
- Do not harass, stalk, or intimidate other users
- Do not use the App for emergency services or critical situations
b) Group Participation (Location & Chat)
- Only share location with people you know and trust
- You are responsible for managing your group memberships
- Respect when others disable location sharing
- Be respectful in chat groups – do not post abusive, hateful, or harassing content
Important Warning About Chat Identities: In ShareWhile chat groups, display names are free text and can be changed by users at any time, per group. We cannot guarantee the authenticity of any user's identity. You are responsible for assessing whether you trust the people you communicate with. Do not share sensitive personal information unless you are certain of the recipient's identity.
c) User Content and Responsibility
- You are solely responsible for all content you post in chat groups, including text messages and emojis
- We do not moderate, review, or pre-screen chat messages
- We are not liable for any offensive, false, misleading, or harmful content posted by users
- If you encounter abusive behavior, we recommend leaving the group or avoiding further interaction until moderation features are available in a future version
d) Notification Controls
- Each group has a "Notifications" toggle. You can enable or disable push notifications per group at any time.
- You can also manage notifications globally through your device settings.

5. Chat and Location Data Retention
- Location data: Only your most recent location per group is stored. It is deleted when you leave a group or delete your account.
- Chat messages: Full history is stored on our servers. Messages remain even after you delete your account or use "Delete All My Data", to preserve conversation integrity for remaining group members. When you delete your account or all your data, you are removed from all groups, but your messages stay visible.
- If all members leave a group or there is no activity for more than 1 year, the group and all its messages are automatically deleted.
- Users cannot delete individual messages (this feature may be added in future versions).
6. Moderation and Enforcement
- Current version: No moderation tools are available. Users cannot be removed from groups by anyone, including group creators. All group members can see the list of members (by their chosen display names).
- Future version: Group creators will be able to remove abusive members from their groups.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, although we currently have no technical means to automatically detect violations.
7. Intellectual Property
- ShareWhile and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by us
- You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works without permission
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShareWhile shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Misuse of location data or chat content by group members
- Accuracy or reliability of location information
- Offensive, false, or harmful content posted by users in chat groups
- Service interruptions or technical issues
- Any damages arising from impersonation or false identities in chat groups
9. Service Modifications and Termination
- We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the App at any time
- We may suspend or terminate your access for violations of these terms
- You may delete your account or all your data at any time via the App settings (note: your chat messages will remain in groups and you will be removed from all groups)
10. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes through the App. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
